Walter Meding, Safeway retiree
Walter Meding, 83, of Lewes, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Md. Walter was born in Scranton, Pa., to the late Arthur Meding and Anna Slavinskas Meding. He is survived by his three sons, Michael, Walter Jr. and Timothy; two daughters, Dawn and Kelly; as well as eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Marie Johnson Meding; and his brother Arthur Jr. He is also survived by many loved ones, including friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other in-laws on all sides of his extended family.
A hardworking family man, Walter retired from Safeway after 40-plus years of faithful service. He enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets, made a hobby of reselling items, and ran his beloved yellow Dodge van into the ground hauling one too many heavy items across multiple states. Walter often lamented, never acting as an extra in a cowboy film or movie (especially as a bad guy), but managed to play a gangster for his 75th birthday in a family-filled party that also included a balloon fight. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing (and eating the spoils of both activities), loved dogs but mostly owned cats, was a devout Phillies fan, and had an incredibly sharp sense of humor.
He will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, at Dawn’s house in Delmar. All inquiries can be directed to the immediate family via social media, or to Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
