Toy, coat drive in need of donations
United Way of Delaware and community partners have come together with other organizations for the second annual Winter Wonderland Community Resource Fairs/Holiday Coat & Toy Drives for kids and families, with a goal of 1,000 coats and 1,000 toys.
Currently in Delaware, nearly 19% of children under age 18 are living in poverty. “That is 34,995 children living in an environment where many of their basic needs are not being met,” said Sarah Cha Cha, Sussex County community engagement manager for the Stand By Me Home Program. “Your generous donation would help ease this burden on those families this holiday season. We are looking for donors to assist in the effort to provide children the gift of warmth this winter by providing new coats and the gift of joy with a holiday toy.”
Donate to this effort at the following locations by Friday, Dec. 2: First State Community Action Agency, 308 N. Railroad Ave., Georgetown; Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, 39375 Inlet Road, Rehoboth Beach; Sussex County Health Coalition, 21133 Sterling Ave., Suite 12, Georgetown; Rehoboth Beach Main Street, 509 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach; and ABC Supply Co., 25414 Primehook Road, Suite 300, Milton.
All monetary gifts received through United Way’s online portal at uwde.org/winterwonderland will be matched $1 for $1 up to $500.
Area holiday events to collect new coats and toys will take place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, at Schellville off Holland Glade Road north of Rehoboth Beach, and from noon to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at Laurel Public Library, 101 E Fourth St.
