St. Peter’s sweetens up the holidays
If you bake it, they will come.
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes held its annual Cookie Walk Dec. 17, with a line of people waiting bright and early to get in. About 145 people purchased nearly 15,000 cookies, satisfying not only their sweet tooth, but also giving to a good cause in the process.
Joanne Ward, co-chair of the holiday fundraiser, said $3,750 will head to the Heart and Soul Ministry and the parish choir. The Little Cupboard, run by the ministry, is an outdoor food pantry that is open for donations and those in need. Placed along the sidewalk in front of the church’s campus and facing Second Street, the mini structure welcomes people to leave what they can and take what they need. Director Darlene Rooney said donations can be left in a labeled container on the ledge by the stairs on the Mulberry Street side of Parish Hall.
The Heart and Soul Ministry helps to not only run the Little Cupboard, but is active within the community, helping to organize food collection and donations. More information, including a donations list, can be found at stpeterslewes.org/parish-life/heart-soul.
