Possum Point Players sets ‘Big River’ info sessions Jan. 7-8

Possum Point Players Stage Director John Hulse of Rehoboth Beach announced open auditions for the musical “Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, and Thursday, Jan. 12, at Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Road, Georgetown.

Diane Trautman of Georgetown will be the music director, and Deni Robinson of Lewes will be the choreographer.  

Optional information meetings for those who would like to know more about the play and the Possums organization are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, and 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, at Possum Hall. Attendees can learn more about the show and production process, including characters, rehearsal schedule and audition requirements, as well as details on opportunities for participating in the production team. Information will be included for those who wish to become more familiar with the theatrical world of Mark Twain’s Huck Finn and other characters. Anyone who has questions or is interested in the show is encouraged to attend.

The cast requires 10 or more women and 15 or more men. Those ages 14 and up are welcome and encouraged to audition. For character descriptions and information, go to possumpointplayers.org.

Those auditioning should prepare one minute of a song that best showcases them in a style from the show. They may also be required to learn a short dance/movement combination. All should come prepared to move. There will also be cold readings from the script.

All are encouraged to bring a second selection as a backup for their audition song. They must bring sheet music in their key for the accompanist. Also acceptable will be singing with a CD that has an accompaniment-only track, no vocals. The CD must be edited and cued correctly. A cappella auditions are discouraged.

Show dates are Friday to Sunday, March 24 to 26, and Friday to Sunday, March 31 to  April 2. The cast must be available for all show dates. Anyone needing more information may contact John Hulse at 302-245-4147.
