Beau and the Beard on James Harden’s Twitter feed
Beau and the Beard popped up in a photo together on James Harden’s Twitter feed, shown in the 76ers’ locker room Jan. 30, following a depressing loss to the Orlando Magic.
Enter Beau Smith from Rehoboth Beach with his flaming red hair and wide Schuylkill smile, a super fan of the 76ers and Phillies. Beau was the expressway into the hearts of 76ers players.
Beau had a kidney transplant in 2019 – a gift from his mom’s sister – and afterward, the neurologist submitted Beau’s name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“The wish was on hold because of COVID, so they offered Beau a virtual visit, but Beau said no,” said Beau’s mom Maureen. “I am so glad he declined, because while [Joel] Embiid actually didn’t talk much, he was nice and gave him a huge pair of red shoes that he signed ... he was in a mood because they lost to Orlando! It was a somber locker room for sure, but the team could not have been nicer, despite the loss. Beau was star-struck for sure!”
Harden posted the photo Jan. 31 with the note, “Great meeting you Beau!” As of Feb. 1, the post had been viewed 1.2 million times.
