Emerson Westcott Stevens Sr., proud veteran
Emerson Westcott Stevens Sr., 71, of Seaford, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa. He was born May 28, 1951, in Keller, Va., son of the late Forrest Hyden Sr. and Addie (Voyles) Stevens.
A proud veteran, Emerson served his country in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he worked for American Original Claim Processing for several years before starting to work for the Virginia Department of Transportation. Emerson made VDOT his career for over 20 years, and following his retirement, he worked part-time at Watson-Yates Funeral Home and Crematorium, a job that he found most rewarding.
A man of strong faith, he was very active in his church. Emerson was an avid outdoorsman, who at every opportunity presented enjoyed clamming, fishing, and riding his Harley. While indoors, he could often be found playing pool with his friends. Emerson truly treasured time spent with his family and friends above all. He was a loving and caring father, stepfather, partner, brother, and friend. Loved by many, he will be forever missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
In addition to his parents, Emerson was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Stevens, Buch Stevens and Ray Stevens. He is survived by his longtime companion, Tina; his son, Emerson Wescott Stevens Jr. of Nassawadox, Va.; his stepdaughter, Lisa Simpson of Nassawadox; and his sister, Darlene Stevens of Newport News, Va.; and four step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, at Victory Baptist Church, 16219 Sussex Hwy., Bridgeville, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 16, at Belle Haven Cemetery, Lee St., Belle Haven, Va.
