The 18th annual Tim Kennard 10-miler took to the streets of Salisbury, Md., March 19, bringing together 385 runners and walkers to celebrate the life of Salisbury runner and friend Tim Kennard, and raise awareness and funds for Team 360, which helps people of different abilities train for and participate in mainstream athletic events; Coalition of Caring, a fund for our animal friends; and the Eastern Shore Running Club Scholarship Fund.
Timothy Kennard, 48 years old, and father of a 7-year old son, passed away March 11, 2004, having fought a courageous battle against kidney cancer. The run/walk is held in his honor, with proceeds going as Tim requested to help children and animals.
In the 5K action, the winner in 17:23 was 31-year-old John Ford of Phoenix, Md. He pulled away from Seashore Striders member Martin Rodriguez, 41, of Selbyville who ran 18:42 for second. Young Sussex Tech runner Bennett Brumbley, 15, of Laurel ran 18:48 to wrap up the top three overall finishers.
Sherry Stick of Sykesville, Md., won the 5k women’s overall in 20:02, while Lindsay Ford of Salisbury was second in 21:20. Karen Cathell of Berlin, Md., was third in 21:39.
Ryan McGrath of Baltimore won the male masters in 21:45, while Lori Holdsworth of Lewes won the female masters in 24:44. Charlie Coffield of Washington, Pa., won the unique grand masters in 23:09, while Laura St. Martin of Rehoboth Beach won the female grand masters in 26:09.
Other locals in the 5K included JR Ward of Millsboro, who ran 22:52, while Matthew Thorne of Ocean View ran 24:35. Joy Biser of Millsboro ran 28:02, and Jim Rhatigan of Millsboro ran 30:09. Seashore Striders regular Jules Woodall of Lewes ran 31:53, while Dan Sypinski of Rehoboth Beach ran 34:36. Stephanie Merritt of Lewes finished in 35:07, while Jack Edwards of Milton ran 38:46. Larry Wilde of Rehoboth Beach ran 58:11 wrapping up the locals in the 5K.
In the 10-mile action, 29-year-old Tyler Muse of Salisbury averaged 5:30 a mile to put nearly a two-minute gap on the field, easily winning the race in 54:55. Graham Peck, 33, of Baltimore, Md., a regular at the Tim Kennard event, was second in 56:32. Nicholas Kratovil of Monson, Mass., ran 1:03:44, good for third, wrapping up the top three overall.
Megan DiGregorio, 34, of Baltimore ran 1:05:25, winning the women’s race by just over a minute, while Erin Surette of Towson, Md., was second in 1:06:56. Jody Berinato of Lutherville-Timonium, Md., finished third in 1:07:04.
Cory Donovan, 40, of Baltimore, ran 1:07:56 for the male masters title, while 41-year-old Maria Miller of Tyaskin, Md., won the female masters in a time of 1:08:57. Phil Shields of Salisbury ran 1:09:42 to win the male grand masters, while Patti Rector of Salisbury ran 1:28:57 to win the female grand masters.
Other locals in the 10-miler included Trudy Dalton of Selbyville, who finished in 1:11:48, while Israel Colon of Rehoboth Beach ran 1:18:27. Tim Young of Rehoboth Beach ran 1:21:34, and Justin Welsh of Ocean View ran 1:24:25. Maureen Pinkerton of Rehoboth Beach ran 1:29:05, and Jen Ward of Millsboro ran 1:29:51. Joseph Senall of Rehoboth Beach ran 1:34:46, while William Dalton of Selbyville ran 1:43:01. Russell Littleton of Frankford ran 1:44:52, while Doug Tootell of Lewes ran 1:47:58. Carla Yngve of Rehoboth Beach ran 1:50:19, while Lisa Wynn of Ocean View ran 1:51:19. Betsy Tootell of Lewes ran 1:51:22, while Jeanine Yzaguirre of Lewes ran 1:52:13. Liz Talley of Ocean View ran 1:52:29, while Sarah Gordon of Ocean View ran 1:56:40. Sharon Breita of Selbyville ran 1:58:55, just breaking the two-hour mark.
