Congratulations to Milton artist Richard Clifton for winning the recent Delaware Duck Stamp competition for Delaware. In the duck stamp world, Clifton's very familiar with the winner's circle. His carefully detailed painting of a single American Wigeon drake, also known as a bald pate, brought him his sixth duck stamp victory in Delaware. The image will grace the 2013 duck stamp for the state - a stamp that all waterfowl hunters must purchase and which is also purchased by many other conservationists.
Clifton's victory in Delaware brings to four the number of duck stamp competitions he has won just this year in the U.S. His images will also be on the stamps of Colorado - Ross's Geese; North Carolina, a pair of redheads in full plumage; Oklahoma - White-Fronted Geese; and the Delaware prize.
Over the years, Clifton has won 36 duck stamp competitions including the biggest prize of all, the federal Duck Stamp competition for the 2007-2008 hunting season.
In October he finished third in the Federal contest with a painting of a pair of Mallards and this painting has been chosen by Ducks Unlimited for their 2013 stamp and print, along with two other Clifton images for their national art package.
Clifton works at his Gallery at Eastwind Studio, 9397 Cods Road, Milford, DE 19963.
