Fund for Women awards $250,000 in grants
At its recent grant awards dinner, the Fund for Women at the Delaware Community Foundation announced $249,575 in grant funds had been presented to 18 nonprofit organizations serving women and girls in all three Delaware counties.
This is the largest amount the FFW has granted in a single year. Since it began awarding grants in 1994, the FFW has awarded 377 grants totaling more than $3.2 million. The FFW’s one-year grants offer organizations seed money for innovative, creative programming, or funding to continue or expand programs where effectiveness has been demonstrated.
Recipients are: Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware (statewide), $15,000 to expand Girls on the Run teams and programming to 10 more clubs; Child Inc. (statewide), $15,000 to fund transitional housing for 11 victims of intimate partner violence and their 21 children; Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (statewide), $15,000 for a culturally competent breast health outreach program to reach underserved Hispanic populations in Delaware; Delaware Center for Justice (statewide), $15,000 to provide training and case management to help women reentering the community after incarceration; First State Abortion Fund (statewide), $15,000 to provide education and resources to break down barriers for women's healthcare services; First State Community Action Agency (statewide), $15,000 for a homelessness prevention program for households headed by single mothers; Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation (statewide), $15,000 for partial education scholarships for at-risk Delaware women; Jewish Family Services of Delaware (statewide), $15,000 for mental health care for women experiencing perinatal and postpartum depression; Junior League of Wilmington (New Castle County), $15,000 to provide period products to the community through a network of partners; La Esperanza Inc. (Sussex County), $5,200 to establish a digital and financial literacy program for Hispanic women; La Red Health Center Inc. (Kent and Sussex counties), $15,000 for prenatal care for uninsured patients; Latin American Community Center (New Castle County), $15,000 for life skills, career and mental health workshops for Hispanic women in abusive relationships; Read Aloud Delaware (New Castle and Sussex counties), $15,000 to teach Hispanic mothers to support their children's literacy development from an early age through music, movement and storytelling; Survivor Ventures (statewide), $15,000 to help survivors of trafficking to reenter the workforce by supporting local startup ventures; Survivors of Abuse in Recovery (statewide), $15,000 to provide therapy to victims of sexual abuse and assault who are either uninsured or unable to afford recovery services; Urban Bike Project of Wilmington (New Castle County), $9,375 to fund GirlCycle Summer Camp, including biking, art projects and training on bicycle mechanics; Vision to Learn (statewide), $10,000 to provide eye exams and glasses to girls in underserved Delaware communities; and Sussex Family YMCA (Sussex County), $15,000 for job training and a pathway to employment for teen girls.
