Pride Film Festival to kick off with ‘Rocky Horror’ June 8

June 1, 2023

Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater, starting Friday, June 2, will present “Joyland,” a deeply affecting drama from filmmaker Saim Sadiq. “Joyland” addresses how one country’s patriarchy oppresses women and the LGBTQ community. The Ranas, a happily patriarchal joint family, yearn for the birth of a baby boy to continue the family line. Their youngest son (Ali Junejo) secretly joins an erotic dance theatre and falls for an ambitious trans starlet. Their impossible love story slowly illuminates the entire Rana family's desire for sexual rebellion.

In a special event to kick off the Pride Film Festival, the society will present “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” at 9:30 p.m., Thursday, June 8.

In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named Rocky. Spirits will be served.

Admission is $9 for film society members, $11.50 for general audience and $5 for students.

For screening times and dates, and to purchase tickets, go to rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
