Food Lion foundation grant goes to breast cancer coalition
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition recently received $2,700 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation.
The coalition will use the funds to provide approximately 27 breast cancer survivors in active treatment with gift cards to purchase food as part of its breast cancer assistance fund. The coalition established this emergency fund for the sole purpose of providing immediate financial assistance to Delaware residents undergoing treatment for breast cancer that is directly causing financial hardship.
Francesca Vogel, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition CEO, said, “Together, we allow each beneficiary to continue receiving treatment without financial worry. As a result, we expect to see increased medical compliance, improved mental health and overall quality of life. Addressing basic financial needs reduces mental stress, affording them a state of mind that is far more conducive to effective treatment of their cancer. For some, that means assisting with hunger needs and food insecurities.”
As Delaware’s most trusted breast cancer resource for over 30 years, the coalition has identified gaps in breast cancer care and treatment, and by establishing strong connections and partnerships within the community, has created and implemented many programs that address the lack of resources available to those with a breast cancer diagnosis.
