The 13th Annual Delaware Veterans Stand Down will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Schutte Park, 10 Electric Ave., Dover.
A Veterans Stand Down is a one-day outreach event for all veterans and their guests. Agencies and local service providers across the state volunteer to participate and provide assistance in one convenient location.
Services include information and assistance regarding issues such as housing, medical, dental, flu shots, behavioral health, employment readiness, and VA eligibility and benefits. Attendees will also be offered haircuts, legal assistance, a hot lunch, camaraderie among fellow veterans and more, according to Liz Byers-Jiron, executive director of the Stand Down.
During the 2022 Stand Down more than 800 veterans and guests registered, including homeless and at-risk veterans.
The Stand Down is organized, planned and carried out by volunteers who work for months to help those who served this country.
“This year, we are expecting a large group and truly appreciate financial support and in-kind contributions to offset the costs, especially the hot meal,” said Byers-Jiron.
All contributions are tax-deductible. Checks should be made payable to Veterans Awareness Center Stand Down, 1512 Caldwell Corner Road, Townsend, DE 19734.
