Laura Joan Snead-Hopkins, passionate caregiver
Laura Joan Snead-Hopkins, 82, affectionately known as June, of Millsboro, departed this life Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023. She was born Sept. 9, 1941, to the late James E. and Laura E. Snead in Exmore, Va.
June grew up and was educated in Frankford, and later graduated from James H. Groves High School. At an early age, she met the love of her life, Paul Clifton Hopkins (Click), and from this union, they had six children. They were inseparable.
Though June was employed with several companies in Delaware, the job she loved most was working at the Stockley Center as a CNA. She was employed there for 18 years before retiring. Her passion as a caregiver led her to the CHEER Center, caring for the elderly and disabled. She didn’t mind telling you about each one of her clients with a quiet laugh. June was also a successful businesswoman. She sold Avon, hair and skin products, clothes, and shoes.
June was a good cook. She loved family gatherings, her church, and her pastor. She also enjoyed going on vacation with her daughter, Jackie and her husband Ivory.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents, James and Laura Snead; four children, Janice Tingle, Paul, Lonnie and Stephanie Hopkins; one grandson, Myron Suggs, one sister, Patricia Hall; and one brother, John Snead.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory two daughters, Joan Milbourne of Frankford, and Jacqueline Williams (Ivory) of Millsboro; 10 grandchildren; one brother, James Snead of Dover; one uncle; one aunt; 17 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, Millsboro, with a viewing beginning at 1 p.m.
Interment will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
