Milton approves street closures for parade, Zombie Fest

Milton Town Council unanimously approved street closures for two of the town’s signature events: the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Lucky Leprechaun 5K race, and the Zombie Fest.

For the St. Patrick’s Day event Saturday, March 10, sponsored by Irish Eyes and Seashore Striders, the plan is to close Union Street and Federal Street from Atlantic Avenue to Milton Elementary School for the duration of the event. The race is slated to kick off at 8 a.m., with the parade from 1 to 4 p.m.

Council also approved the street closure plan for Zombie Fest, put on by Milton Theatre, set for Saturday, Oct. 19.

On this issue, council members had questions about the scale of the event and whether to authorize closure of the Magnolia Street parking lot for its Kids Fest portion.

The theater was authorized to close the Magnolia Street lot and Union Street from Chandler Street to Federal Street from 12 to 11 p.m. for vendor setup, and to close Union Street from Atlantic Avenue to Federal Street from 5 to 10 p.m. for the annual Zombie Walk parade.

The main event change from previous years is moving the Kids Fest to the Magnolia Street lot. In prior years, it was held behind the Milton Theatre House, but theater representatives sought to use the parking lot to allow more space for attendees.

The theater’s plans are subject to approval from the Delaware Department of Transportation, which maintains Union and Federal streets.
