Laurel Ann Doty, passionate about the arts
Laurel Ann (Whitaker) Doty, a resident of Millsboro, formerly of Rockaway, N.J., and East Patchogue, N.Y., was quietly embraced by eternal peace at her home Friday, May 3, 2024.
Laurie was a beacon of light to all who knew her, a devoted wife, mother, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and friend. Her gentle spirit and compassionate heart touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the world around her.
She was born in Port Jefferson, N.Y., March 8, 1954, to Joseph F. and Pauline (Kaznowski) Whitaker. Laurie is survived by her son, Nicholas C. Doty and his wife Aline of Millsboro; her brother, Joseph G. Whitaker and his wife Sheri of Florda; siblings-in-law, Bernadette Dvorak, Charles Doty and Christopher Doty of New York and New Hampshire; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and -nephews; and many dear, lifelong friends, including Ava Collazo with whom she shared a special sisterly bond.
Laurie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Elliott (Ted) Doty in 2011. Their families and friends are comforted that they are together again. Laurie and Ted met at Seton Hall High School in Patchogue, N.Y. Laurie earned a bachelor of arts degree at the State University of NY-Potsdam with a concentration in the Department of Theatre and Dance, where her love for theater, musicals and dance blossomed. Laurie's passion for the arts infused her life with creativity and joy, enriching the lives of many others. Memories of Laurie will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends in the days ahead.
A celebration of Laurie's life will be planned for a future date when family and friends will be invited to celebrate her memory at a pre-interment gathering, where her earthly remains will join Ted’s in eternal rest.
