Mary Roberta Wheeler, enjoyed golfing, traveling
Mary Roberta Wheeler, formerly of Tappan, N.Y., and recently Bay Crossing in Lewes, passed away at The Lodge at Historic Lewes memory care facility in Lewes May 20, 2024, with her husband by her side. She was born in Ashley, Pa., Nov. 27, 1936. Bobbie, as she is known to family and friends, was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Irwin Whitmire.
Bobbie was married to Robert Rahl Aug. 17, 1957; they were married for almost 30 years, and shared two sons and two daughters together. Bobbie became a widow early in life and was blessed to marry Ken Wheeler Sept. 17, 1988.
Bobbie enjoyed golfing, gourmet dining, and traveling the world with her husband Ken. They shared their passion for travel with the entire family by hosting trips to Mexico, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and Alaska. After Bobbie retired from Lederle Laboratories, Pearl River, N.Y., They enjoyed wintering on the Gulf Coast of Florida and relocated to Bay Crossings, Lewes in 2012.
Bobbie is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Wheeler; one son, Robert Rahl; two daughters, Karen (Jeffrey) Redfern and Laurel McCullagh (Angel); daughter-in-law, Kathleen Rahl; two stepdaughters, Susan Farris and Amy Klingensmith; and grandchildren, Matthew, Kristin (Matthew), Ellen (Tim), Delia, Julia, Christopher, Emily, Brennon and Campbell. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert Rahl; son Mark Rahl; and stepson-in-law, Jim Klingensmith.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 200 Second St., Lewes. Visitors may begin calling at 10 a.m. Burial will be held privately.
