RD 4 candidate forum set Sept. 26

The League of Women Voters of Sussex County is hosting a public forum for candidates for Delaware House of Representatives District 4 from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, at Indian River Senior Center, 24 Irons Ave., Millsboro.

Candidates running for the office are Jeff Hilovsky, incumbent Republican, and Greg Lindner, Democrat.

Following brief opening statements, the candidates will answer questions from the audience. Attendees are encouraged to bring written questions, legibly printed on a 3-by-5-inch card. Note cards and pencils for posing questions will also be available at the door and from monitors in the aisles throughout the program.

Michele Forzley, JD, MPH will serve as moderator, and ASL Connections will provide sign language interpretation.

Legislative authority and responsibilities of the Delaware House of Representatives include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes. Elected for a two-year term, Delaware state representatives introduce and vote on proposed legislation, approve the annual state budget, and serve on assigned committees.

Voters can find their Representative District numbers on their Delaware Polling Place Card or by entering their address on VOTE411.org, the League of Women Voters’ online voters’ guide. With the aim to encourage active and informed participation in government and to increase understanding of public policy issues, the league is a nonpartisan organization that does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for elective office.
