Abigail Lynn Richards-Cabelly, extraordinary woman
Abigail Lynn Richards-Cabelly of Washington, D.C., and Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at Georgetown University Lombardi Medical Center. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert J. Cabelly.
Gail was born July 30, 1950, in Baltimore, Md., daughter of Emmit Louis Richards and Myrtle Marie (Sommers). She grew up on her thoroughbred horse farm in Monkton, Md. Her brother, Ronald Richards, passed away in 2008.
Gail graduated from Sweetbriar College. Shortly thereafter, she joined Alex Brown & Sons in Baltimore, Md. In February 1978, she joined Johnston Lemon & Co., and in November 2014, she joined Folger Nolan Fleming Douglas as a financial advisor. Gail held senior positions in both firms.
Gail was very pleased with her tenure as president of the Washington Historical Society.
She loved horseback riding, sailing, gardening, cooking, and the beach, particularly at her home in Rehoboth Beach. She especially enjoyed a few good Manhattans.
Gail was an extraordinary woman, always welcoming and giving, forever faithful, and the most loyal friend one could have. She will miss her many friends in Washington and Rehoboth, just as they already miss her.
Celebration of life memorials will be held at a later date in Washington and Rehoboth.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the American Cancer Society.
