Dewey finance committee to meet

The Dewey Beach finance committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Members will possibly vote to appoint a committee chair and will hear presentations from the town manager regarding financial needs and budget status and from Dominic DiFebo regarding the Brown Advisory portfolio.

Free flu shots at Bayside Fitness Oct. 10

Beebe Healthcare will host a free influenza vaccination clinic from 12 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, at Bayside Fitness, 34814 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Flu vaccines are available to adults age 18 and older. Also available will be health screenings for blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol. For more information, call 302-231-8982.

Rehoboth green group to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Trees & Green Infrastructure Committee has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 11. The agenda calls for a review of the commemorative tree program fund and a discussion about tree preservation during construction.

The meeting will be conducted in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. A full agenda, meeting materials and a livestream are accessible at cityofrehoboth.civicweb.net. Rehoboth planning commission to meet 

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has scheduled a meeting for 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11. The agenda calls for a continuation of the site plan review for One Rehoboth Avenue Hotel and a concept review for a project at 8 Wilmington Ave. 

Originally, the agenda called for a discussion on the planning commission’s authority to interpret and enforce the zoning code versus that of the city building inspector. That issue has been removed from the agenda.

Voter registration deadline approaching

Delaware residents who wish to vote in the Nov. 5 General Election and are currently unregistered must register to vote on or before 11:59 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12.

Individuals may register to vote in Delaware if they are a U.S. citizen, resident of Delaware, and will be at least 18 on or before Nov. 5, 2024.

To register to vote online, go to  ivote.de.gov. 

Citizens can also register to vote by downloading and printing a form from the Department of Elections website at de.gov/vrapp. They must complete, sign and submit the form to the Department of Elections by Oct. 12. Forms can also be requested by calling the Department of Elections in the resident’s county. Citizens can also register in person at their local Department of Elections office in Wilmington, Dover or Georgetown during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and during those hours Saturday, Oct. 12.  Each person must show a valid ID with their name and current Delaware address.

Delaware residents may check to see if they are registered to vote in Delaware at ivote.de.gov or by contacting the Department of Elections office in their county of residence.

Candidate forums set locally

The Delaware Convention of States Team will host Candidate Town Halls in Lewes and Millsboro for House and Senate district candidates seeking election. All parties and all constituents are invited.

An event will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21, at the Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes, for candidates for the 14th District House seat, the 20th District House seat, and the 6th District Senate seat. An event for House candidates for District 4 and District 41 will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Millsboro Fire Hall.

Audience members may submit questions to a moderator for each candidate.

YMCA sets trunk or treat in Rehoboth Oct. 25

The Sussex Family YMCA will host its trunk or treat and haunted house from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at 20080 Church St., Rehoboth Beach. The event offers a safe, festive environment for families to come together and enjoy exciting fall activities. For more information, go to ymcade.org/fallfest.

Surf swap fundraiser set Nov. 2 in Rehoboth Beach

The Delaware Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will hold its inaugural surf swap fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, in the parking lot of Rise Up Coffee, 502 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Rain date is Sunday, Nov. 3.

Surfers from all over Delmarva will be selling used surfboards, fins and gear. Admission is free. Buyers must bring cash to make transactions directly with sellers and should arrive early to snag the best deals.

Brad Allen and His Escape Hatch will be playing live on the patio, and a local artist showcase will include McKenzie and Ryan West, Bonnie Preziosi, Serf’d and Crystal Stokowski.

Representatives from Delaware Sea Grant, MERR Institute and Plastic Free Delaware will be present, offering information and activities focused on environmental awareness for both kids and adults.

Attendees will be able to connect with fellow surf enthusiasts and local artists, and learn about what Surfrider and other local organizations are doing to preserve Delaware’s most fragile resources.
