James Washington Lichford, had successful career
James Washington Lichford of Milton passed away Sept. 22, 2024. Jimmy was born at home in Lynchburg, Va., Jan. 24, 1941.
He is survived by one sister, Stella Lichford Nunnally, and her husband Arnie; two nephews, Christopher and Marc Nunnally; and his partner, Bruce E. McFarlane of Milton.
Jimmy had a very successful career. First, he worked for 25-plus years at Western Union, and then for 35 years at Federal Communications Center in Washington, D.C. He retired Jan. 1, 2020, at 79. Jimmy was the go-to person at the FCC. He was very knowledgeable in his selected line of work and very respected by his fellow employees.
Jimmy also loved to travel. He visited many countries in Europe, several states, and the Virgin Islands. He also returned from Europe on the Queen Mary, something he had always wanted to do.
He was very interested in trains and trolleys, riding them, and having layouts both inside the house and outside. In the front yard in Milton, he had 110 feet of garden gauge track, which was popular in the neighborhood.
When Jimmy lived in Richmond, Va., he was asked to play the organ at his local church. He also enjoyed playing his baby grand piano.
Interment was held at Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield, Va.
Arrangements were in the care of Short Funeral Services, Milton.
