Rose Marie Massella, enjoyed helping others
Rose Marie Massella, 101, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at home in Rehoboth Beach.
Rose was born in Yonkers, N.Y., May 27, 1923, daughter of the late Raffaele Pistone and Rosalina (Abate) Pistone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Matthew Massella; brothers, Erasmus and Joseph Pistone; and one grandson, Damien Massella.
Rose is survived by her two sons, Michael Massella Jr. and Ralph Massella; two daughters, Patricia Massella, and Rosalind Aikens and husband Greg; six grandchildren, Michael III, Meaghan, Katie, Tara, Andrea and Bridgette; and eight great-grandchildren, Landon, Guy, Shelby, Samuel, Quinn, Audrianna, Aaliyah and Rosie.
Rose's greatest joy was helping others. At 87, she was awarded a pin by AO Fox nursing home in Oneonta, N.Y., for volunteering 4,000 hours of service.
Rose was independent and enjoyed cooking for her family, shopping, and walking around the neighborhood unassisted until breaking her hip two months ago in September.
A private memorial service for the family will be held in Rehoboth Beach at a later date.
