BSA Troop 1 celebrates seven Eagle Scouts in 2024

December 25, 2024

Boy Scouts of America Troop 1 in Lewes, chartered to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, announced seven members attained the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in the year 2024.

They are Nicholas Parsons, David Green, Jack Thomas, James Blair, Victor Goodhue, Gavin Isaacs and Ian Campbell. The troop’s first Eagle Scout rank was awarded in 1928. This year, Campbell was recognized as Troop 1’s 100th Eagle Scout.

This significant milestone reflects the dedication, leadership and commitment to community service of Troop 1 leadership of each scout reaching the rank of Eagle. Based on national statistics, only about 4% of all scouts reach the rank of Eagle.

Goodhue earned scouting’s highest rank after completing a service project at Milton Little League that required raising $8,600 and spending more than 90 hours building two batting cages. A member of St. Jude the Apostle Church, he attends Sussex Academy High School where he is a baseball team captain. He also enjoys surfing, fishing and camping.

Nicholas Parsons managed a group of volunteers to clear trails in a neighborhood of senior adults for his Eagle project. The project also provided, strategically located and installed benches where people could rest during walks. A member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach, Parsons attended Sussex Academy. His hobbies are sailing, scuba diving and fishing.

David Green raised funds and managed the construction of three osprey nesting platforms on the banks of the Broadkill River for his Eagle project. Green currently attends Johnson University in Knoxville, Tenn. His hobbies include boating, fishing, golf and playing the bass guitar.

For his Eagle Scout project, Jack Thomas raised funds and coordinated construction of a fence and gate for Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding. The fence and gate help to keep the property and livestock secure, and the horses and riders safe from traffic. A member of St. Edmond Catholic Church, Thomas attends Sussex Academy. His activities and hobbies include playing baseball for his school team and playing trumpet in the school band.

James Blair managed and coordinated the construction and placement of 20 bluebird boxes for Abbott's Mill Nature Center for his Eagle project. A declining species, bluebirds will be able to nest and rear their young in a place where they can be protected and monitored.

Gavin Isaacs coordinated expansion of the feed room for Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding for his Eagle project. The extra space allows for additional horses to serve more participants. Green graduated from Cape Henlopen High School this year.

For his Eagle project, Ian Cambell raised funds for and managed construction of a 15-by-15-foot paved patio with a fire pit and composite wood benches for the Crossing Church, where he is a member. The patio will provide an additional area for fellowship and family gatherings. Campbell attends Delmarva Christian School. He plays keyboard and drums for the worship bands at church and school. His hobbies include soccer, archery and hunting.

Each Eagle Scout has completed a rigorous set of requirements, including earning at least 21 merit badges, demonstrating leadership skills and completing a community service project of benefit to their community. The projects are personally selected by the individual scouts and approved by leadership.

Since 1927, Troop 1 has fostered leadership, outdoor skills and community service for youth. For a list of all 100 Troop 1 Eagle Scouts, go to Troop1Lewes.org.
