Little Pink Houses art exhibit opens in Rehoboth Beach Aug. 11
Rehoboth Beach artist Terry M. Isner will exhibit his new show, Little Pink Houses, at CAMP Rehoboth on Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach from 7 to 11 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11.
Isner’s show is inspired by John Mellencamp’s "Scarecrow" album, released in 1985. “Mellencamp is a longtime favorite of mine, back in the '80s and still today. His songs on the 'Scarecrow' album were written about the heartland, family, farmers and a changing nation back then. Here we are 27 years later, and those lyrics still apply to our ever changing, face of the nation. They will always speak of an ‘America for you and me,’” Isner said.
“The little pink house represents what we have and should not take for granted: our safe haven that can so easily be lost by unemployment, health and natural disaster. It is a symbol of our evolving landscape where families come in many different forms, and our homes are filled with many types of love. These paintings are to remind us to be thankful and be hopeful.”
Isner’s work is inspired by music, social events and pop culture, and he describes his work as folk-pop art. “I love to use bright, happy colors intertwined with graphics and shapes for whimsical story telling.”
The Little Pink Houses show was done in acrylics on both canvas and paper. There are 18 pieces in the show ranging in sizes from five inches by five inches to 36 inches by 36 inches. Though the theme of little pink houses is obvious throughout his work, there are two distinct styles Isner uses to tell his story. His paper and acrylic pieces were inspired by pop artists like Keith Haring and Britto, while his acrylic and canvas pieces take on a more folk art style, creating a new perspective on landscapes.
This is Isner’s fourth solo show and CAMP Rehoboth’s first solo exhibition. CAMP Rehoboth is no stranger to the local art world and hosts monthly shows that Isner helps curate, in addition to exhibiting his work. Isner has donated several pieces over the last 10 years to the CAMP’s fundraising events, such as HeART of the Community and Sundance. Isner has also donated his work to several other fundraising events, including the American Heart Association and the Chris O’Brien Foundation.
