Cheryl Dunn-Winchester, loved cars

September 7, 2012

Cheryl Marie Dunn-Winchester, 28, of Rehoboth Beach passed away suddenly as the result of a pedestrian accident Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012.

She was born March 25, 1984, in Chester, Pa., daughter of Cheryl Winchester Dunn of Rehoboth Beach and Lawrence Dunn of Claymont. Cheryl was the loving mother of Carla Pettyjohn, age 3, and Julian Pettyjohn, age 1.

As a child, Cheryl loved going to the car races with her dad. This early interest in cars was fulfilled when she studied auto mechanics at Sussex Technical High School where she graduated in 2002. Cheryl also was an avid softball player from her early years. She was currently employed by the Rehoboth Diner.

Cheryl was an inspiration to her family, the way she raised her children and the way she cared for her mother and tried to take care of everyone. She was a very special person and had a very big heart; she would do anything for anybody. She knew what she wanted out of life, and that was to see her children grow up and be happy and safe.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Edward and Anne Dunn of Claymont, and William and Mildred Winchester of Marcus Hook, Pa. In addition to her parents and children, Cheryl is survived by her sister, Kathy Lynn Dunn; nephew Peyton Fitzgerald; friend Craig Pettyjohn and his mother Patti Pettyjohn. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins who were really close with her: Bonnie, Millie, Keith and Irma Winchester, James Ford and many more.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, in the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 2 p.m. A benefit for the children will be announced at a later date at the Gray Hare Tavern.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to her children’s donation fund. Checks may be made out to Carla Pettyjohn or Julian Pettyjohn and mailed to Winchester Children, P.O. Box 533, Nassau, DE 19969.
