(New Castle, DE) On October 16, 2012, the Delaware River and Bay Authority Policedepartment dedicated its Firing Range in the memory of Patrolman Harry Passmore Cloud during abrief ceremony held at the Range beneath the Delaware-bound Span. The firing range has beenutilized by law enforcement personnel for training purposes since its inception in the early 1950s.

On October 1, 1953, Patrolman Harry P. Cloud joined the Delaware Memorial Bridgepolice force and served as a police officer at the Delaware Memorial Bridge for nineteen months.On Saturday, July 2, 1955, Patrolman Cloud was performing a traffic diversion assignment in thearea of the Delaware Memorial Bridge Toll Plaza. Patrolman Cloud had just completed thisassignment when he was tragically struck by a passing vehicle. Patrolman Cloud was transported toDelaware Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Cloud was the first officer killedin the line of duty at the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
