Hurricane fells trees in Rolling Meadows

Kim Yost and her daughter, Katie Koser, were watching television at home in Rolling Meadows when a large tree came crashing down on the house.

It was about 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, when one of the largest trees in the Lewes-area development fell on top of the two-story house. Branches scratched and pressed against upstairs windows, but the glass held. Downstairs, a large branch crashed through French doors that opened out from the kitchen.

"It was terrifying," said Koser.

"We were really scared," Yost said. "The tree damaged the house, but the homeowners have insurance, and no one was hurt."

Next door, another large tree fell across Dartmouth Drive and into the yard of Harry and Sandy Davies. By 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, the tree was cleared out of the road.

On the other side of the development, Heidi Boucher lost a large mock pear tree, but it missed her house when it fell.

"It's a shame because it was such a nice tree and it really shaded this side of our house," said Boucher.

Rolling Meadows Homeowners Association President Dan Schultz was manning the phones during the night, ready to help any resident that needed it.

In the end, Schultz said he only received one call.

"There wasn't much damage here, other than some trees down," he said. "The tree on the house was the biggest damage. We were lucky here."
