Clark R. Carson Sr., NSA retiree
Clark Robert Carson Sr. passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., March 15, 1935, to Harlow and Jane (Wilkinson) Carson.
He resided in Boston, Mass., and later in Philadelphia, Pa. and Spartanburg, S.C. He attended high school and Wofford College in Spartanburg. In 1958 he graduated with a degree in mathematics. Immediately upon graduation he received his Army officer commission (lieutenant) and was stationed in both the United States and Japan with Army intelligence.
After release from the service, he took an electronics engineering position with the National Security Agency (NSA) at Ft. Meade, Md.
On June 17, 1961, he married Elaine M. Anderson at the Cathedral of St. Matthews, Washington, D.C. They resided in the Washington suburbs and also had an assignment in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, Germany. After 35 years of intelligence service, in service to the United States, Clark retired and he and his wife moved to Brandywood, Millsboro.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, in 2008. He is survived by four children, Diane Elaine Johnston of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., Clark R. Carson Jr. of Elkridge, Md., Christine Marie Ferralli and her husband Jeffrey Ferralli of Charlottesville, Va., and the Rev. Daniel Bruce Carson of Bowie, Md. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; his brother Harlow Carson of Lewes and brother Bruce Carson of Odenton, Md.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 5, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave. at Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach, with a funeral Mass to follow starting at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Dagsboro, immediately following the funeral Mass.
