Elsie B. Mitchell, active in church

Mrs. Elsie B. Mitchell, 90, of Milton passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013. Mrs. Mitchell was born July 10, 1923, to the late John E. and Florence M. Baker Brasure. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joshua B. Mitchell; sisters, Elma Cannon and Elizabeth Hoyt; and a granddaughter, Annette Holston.

She worked as a secretary for Peninsula Forest Products in Millsboro for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Journey, a Wesleyan Church in Millsboro, where she held the office of treasurer, and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She helped with the missionaries and volunteered at Hepzibah, an orphanage in Georgia. She enjoyed sewing, painting, puzzles, reading and crochet. She also liked making crafts. Elsie was a very patient woman. She prayed for her family and read her Bible daily. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, and she eagerly looked forward to Christmas Eve with her family.

She is survived by her children, Rita M. Caudell and husband Randy of Fredericksburg, Va., John W. Mitchell and wife Virginia of Milford, Tanya M. Holston and husband Ralph of Milton, and Burton J. Mitchell of Seaford; a sister, Reba Hoyt of Ellendale; six grandchildren, Tracy Caudell and fiancé Roger Armstrong, Dean Caudell and wife Nina, Kristin Elliott and husband John, Michael Mitchell and wife Mandy, Natalie Cullen and husband J.P., Julie Cosbey and husband Todd; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous family members and friends.

A funeral and celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow at Millsboro Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Journey, a Wesleyan Church, PO Box 371, Millsboro, DE 19966 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
