Charles A. Twigg, avid outdoorsman

November 18, 2013

Charles A. Twigg, 91, a former longtime resident of Liftwood in Wilmington, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013.

Charles was born on the family farm in Snow Hill, Md., to Charles T. and Laura Twigg, and not wanting to pursue farming as a permanent career, moved to Wilmington and graduated from Goldey-Beacom College. He started his long and distinguished career at Hercules in 1940, ultimately retiring in 1985 as a marketing manager in the paper chemicals department - he proudly boasted that he loved every day he spent at work. Charlie was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, golf and hunting. After his retirement, Charles and his late wife Doris enjoyed spending most of the warm months at their Rehoboth Beach house and spending the coldest part of the winter in Naples, Fla.

Charles was preceded in death in May 2012 by his wife of 65 years, Doris Carr Twigg; and he is survived by their two daughters, Barbara L. Twigg and Linda T. Burkett; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his sister, Laura Figgs.

A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, south of Silverside Road). Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.
