Rehoboth Museum to present lighthouse program Nov. 6
Speaker Dr. Terry Bryan will bring to life the cherished history of the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse in a presentation at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Rehoboth Beach Museum, 511 Rehoboth Ave. Suggested donation for nonmembers is $5.
The presentation will allow the audience to see many old images captured through the years before the lighthouse fell into the ocean in 1926.
Bryan’s extensive knowledge of numismatics - the study or collection of coins, tokens, paper money, and related objects such as medals - will be an element in his presentation. He will bring items for show and tell, such as old coins and other finds from along the beaches of Dewey and Bethany.
Bryan is a lifelong Delaware resident, a member of a number of numismatic and historical-interest organizations, and has written numerous articles related to the evenings’ topics such as Light Up Your Collection (Henlopen Lighthouse), and Tune Up Your Collection (songs about money). Bryan taught The History of Money for several semesters with the Osher Academy of Lifelong Learning as well as one semester of Topics in Delaware History.
The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society’s Nov. 22 Fall Luncheon will welcome guest speaker Dennis Forney, publisher of the Cape Gazette newspaper. Forney will discuss his and his wife Becky’s cross-country bicycle trip. Advance reservations are required and must be received by Nov. 20.
