“An Evening for the Animals is our biggest event of the year,” said David Litz, boardmember and co-chair of the event. “It's an evening filled with great friends, great food, and entertainment but most importantly, it's your opportunity to help an animal that truly needs you through your presence at the event through a ticket purchase and/or sponsorship.”
“This evening promises to be glorious and for a great cause – all for the little (and big) paws we care for at FSAC-SPCA,” Litz said.
First State Animal Center and SPCA is a 501 C 3, non-profit, multi-faceted animal welfare and service organization, whose focus is animal welfare, adoptions, spay/neuter programs, vaccination clinics, education programs, and statewide animal control. Its mission is a noble one: To prevent cruelty and suffering to animals, rescue the trapped or injured, provide emergency medical treatment and temporary housing to homeless animals, reduce pet over-population through various spay/neuter programs and educational programs. They also serve the human population at-large, by removing dangerous animals off the streets. FSAC-SPCA is committed to placing abandoned pets into happy, healthy homes, and to educate the public about responsible pet guardianship.
“The money raised from this fund-raiser allows the FSAC-SPCA to provide shelter and care for more than 12,000 animals that we provide some kind of service for each year,” said Lisa Strong Chase, the director of development and marketing. “The organization is able to provide for these animals through the generosity of organizations, individual donors and events such as An Evening for the Animals.” Chase added that the event has grown and expanded over the years, and that hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised by the FSAC-SPCA board of directors through their direction and sponsorship of this event.
Elestine Cooper, a long-time board member, past president of the animal center and past chairwoman of the fund-raising event, said that it is an evening that people will come out to and support the community’s local animal shelter. “It is truly a top-drawer event, so much fun, and so very beneficial to the animals in our care,” she said.
