It's happened again. Some inattentive or inebriated motorist drove through the stop sign at the New Road end of Old Orchard Road outside Lewes and smashed into the decorative fence around the community there. Of course to get to the fence the driver also had to smash through the end-of-the road warning signs.
This is at least the fourth time this has happened in the past few years. One of these days an unfortunate driver will smash into one of the brick pillars there and be killed in the collision. Or, someone will drive through the stop sign again and T-bone a driver on New Road. Either a flashing light or rumble strips need to be installed to alert drivers that the road is coming to an end.
Do we really have to wait until someone is seriously hurt to take action that is so obviously needed? Newly reelected Sen. Ernie Lopez and Rep. Steve Smyk need to use their influence to make something happen here. Neglect is no longer acceptable.
