First State Military Academy breaks ground for renovations

December 27, 2014

The soggy weather did not dampen the First State Military Academy Founding Board’s enthusiasm for the groundbreaking ceremony held recently at the campus in Clayton. Shiny shovels and hard hats were in position for the event. The rain moved the groundbreaking ceremony indoors at the academy's media center where the community, business leaders and supporters all came out to witness the occasion. The rain held off just in time for the official dig.

"On behalf of the founding board, I can state that our pace here at the First State Military Academy is quickening,” said Scott Kidner, chairman of the First State Military Academy Founding Board of Directors. “With the wonderful support from our lenders NCALL and USDA, and our exceptional contractor, we have begun major interior renovations that will move walls, update the entire HVAC system, paint hallways, replace floors and ceilings - it is a great step forward. Today brings to focus our intention of providing an impressive new school for the students of central Delaware."

Distinguished guests and speakers included Clayton Mayor Tom Horn Jr., who expressed his eagerness and excitement for the new activity and much promise for the campus in the Town of Clayton. Rep. Jeff Spiegelman, R-Clayton, echoed the sentiments and looked forward to seeing the student community grow, especially the commitment to engage parents in the education process. Tours were offered immediately following the ceremony.

The academy is currently accepting applications for the 2015-16 school year for ninth and 10th grades. The Open Enrollment Period ends Jan. 14, 2015. Visit www.schoolchoicede.org to apply.
