Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary writes grants to four Sussex organizations

February 1, 2015

Christmas came a little early for four Sussex County community organizations Dec. 23 as each received a $1,000 check from the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club at the club’s regular weekly meeting. Each year the club provides small grants to organizations that provide direct support to those in need.

Organizations receiving community grants were: Cancer Support Community, La Red Health Center, Sussex County Crisis Housing, and Sussex Senior Transportation Cooperative, known as ITN Southern Delaware. The Sussex Chapter of the American Red Cross also received a check from the club’s annual benefit golf tournament.

Since 1926, when the club was founded, the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club has existed to provide support to the communities in its name. In addition to community grants, the club provides college scholarships, dictionaries to third-graders in Georgetown and Millsboro schools, a campership to Easter Seals Camp Fairlee, scholarships to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference for five high school juniors and more. The club also supports the Sussex County unit of the American Red Cross. Nearly $250,000 has been contributed over more than two decades. The Red Cross has been the primary beneficiary of the club’s annual golf tournament for the past 25 years.

The Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club is one of 40 clubs of District 7630, which includes all of Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Rotary International has over 1.2 million members in nearly every country in the world. Rotarians are business and community leaders whose men and women live the Rotary motto of Service Above Self. New members are always welcome. Go to www.georgetownmillsbororotaryclub.org to learn more.
