February 12, 2015

The Clear Space Theatre production of "Steel Magnolias" continues its successful run at Clear Space Theatre. The show has only seven performances remaining in the three-weekend run ending Sunday, Feb. 22. Written in 1987 by Robert Harling, the play is the basis for the successful 1989 movie of the same name.

All of the action in the original play takes place inside Truvy’s beauty salon. The story includes familiar lines from the popular film and is presented in the intimate setting of the theatre.

“I remember the movie with its classic portrayals by Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Julia Roberts and Daryl Hannah,” says Wesley Paulson, executive director. Paulson adds “Seeing the show on stage brings a new perspective to the issues faced by the six women who make up the entire cast of the show.”

Mother and daughter in real life, Valorie Jarrell and her daughter Katharine Ariyan also portray mother (M’Lynn) and daughter (Shelby) in the play. The Clear Space production also features Stephanie Allman (Clairee), AEA actress Jann Ellis (Ouiser), Cat Timko (Annelle) and Amy Warick (Truvy).

The production is directed by Clear Space Artistic Director David Button. “Steel Magnolias" has been successful in just its first weekend, proving that audiences crave a show filled with talented women, a lot of laughter, and a few tears,” states Button.

"Steel Magnolias" continues with s “pay what you can” night  Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. The production runs through Feb. 22 with shows on Friday and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Call Melody in the box office at 302-227-270 or buy tickets online at www.ClearSpaceTheatre.org.
