Newton Edward Crouse, Seaford businessman

Newton Edward Crouse, 77, of Seaford, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, March 28, 2015m with his wife and family by his side. He was born Oct. 8,1937, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Newton and Virginia Crouse.

Newton was originally from Baltimore, where he worked for the A&P Tea Company for 18 years. In 1973, Newton along with his wife Carol, decided to relocate the family from Baltimore to Seaford. He joined the H P Cannon Company of Bridgeville, where he eventually became president of sales and marketing. Also during this time, he established his own national food brokerage company. Later in life, Newton worked for the Seaford Leader and Laurel Star newspapers, both covering the Seaford area.

He enjoyed life, laughter and giving back to the community. Newton served on the Seaford library board for many years, working hard to bring a new library to the Seaford area. He also served on the Nanticoke Hospital and Seaford Golf and Country Club boards. Newton was an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 381. His proudest contribution to the Seaford community came each year when he dressed as Santa Claus for the Christmas parade and visited local schools, hospitals and nursing homes.

Newton was an avid bowler in his youth, winning many trophies. Later in life he enjoyed golfing with friends.

In addition to his parents, Newton was preceded in death by his grandson, Grant Crouse; and parents-in-law Ruth and Ed Cable. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol Crouse; two daughters: Donna Jones and Denise Crouse; a son, David Crouse and his wife Tina; six grandchildren: Paige, Drew, and Adam Crouse, Amanda Jones, Hanna Funk and her husband Alex and Danielle Wagoner; a sister, Mary Parsons and her husband Harry and their three children Becky, Greg and Tim. He also leaves behind his lunch buddies and golfing partners.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may visit beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Newton's memory to the Grant Crouse Memorial Soccer Foundation, P.O. Box 1663, Seaford DE 19973.
