Edward K. Barnard, had distinguished career
Edward K. Barnard, 80, of Dewey Beach, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at his home. He was born in Rome, N.Y., Dec. 24, 1934, son of the late Laura Kinsel and Edward Frederick Barnard.
Mr. Barnard graduated from Rome Free Academy in Rome. During this time, he achieved the highest rank in Boy Scouts of America as Eagle Scout. He went on to receive his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering (BME) at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Upon his graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy as boiler officer aboard the attack aircraft carrier U.S.S. Saratoga (CVA 60) out of Mayport, Fla. Following his honorable discharge, he furthered his education at LaSalle University where he received his bachelor of laws degree (LLB).
Mr. Barnard enjoyed a 36-year career with Commercial Intertech Company located in Youngstown, Ohio, where he reached the positions of corporate vice president, followed by president and managing director of the Astron Building Systems Group.
The last 20 years of Mr. Barnard's career were spent working and living in England and Luxembourg. While in Luxembourg, he was awarded the Chevalier Medal from the Grand Duc du Luxembourg. Upon Mr. Barnard's retirement, he and his wife moved to Dewey Beach.
Mr. Barnard is survived by his wife, Barbara Barnard of Dewey Beach; his son, Edward F. Barnard II of Reno, Nev.; his daughter, Julia A. Barnard of Ipswich, Mass.; his stepson, Richard Clark of Santa Monica, Calif.; and his three granddaughters, Elisabeth Barnard, Ansley Barnard and Sophia Adair Clark.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m., at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, 611 Savannah Road, Lewes. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
