McGuiness unveils campaign website
Rehoboth Beach Commissioner Kathy McGuiness has unveiled her official website and announce her candidacy for lieutenant governor.
Running as a Democrat, McGuiness made her formal announcement in a video posted on her new website, votemcguiness.com. In the video, McGuiness touts her experience as a city commissioner and as the founder of Rehoboth Beach Main Street to show she knows how to make government work.
McGuiness filed her bid for lieutenant governor in September.
"Since I filed officially earlier, people have been asking me for an announcement. Given where we are in campaign season, this was an appropriate way to share with Delawareans that my campaign is underway," she said.
In addition, McGuiness said she would embark on a tour of the state in the spring, visiting all three counties.
McGuiness has served five terms as a Rehoboth commissioner, from 2000 to 2013 and after a year off, she was reelected in 2014.
Besides McGuiness, the field is likely to include state Sen. Bethany Hall-Long (D-Middletown), New Castle County Register of Wills Ciro Poppiti, Kent County Levy Court Commissioner Brad Eaby and former Sussex County Register of Wills Greg Fuller. At this time, only McGuiness and Poppiti have officially filed. The position became open after Matt Denn was elected Attorney General, replacing the late Beau Biden.
"All of Delaware is changing and we have to be ready to take on that challenge. Delaware needs statewide officials who understand what it takes to create opportunity for all Delawareans," McGuiness said. "My experience of having served on the front lines of government, business and the nonprofit sector have taught me how to be strong, decisive and get results for the people I serve."
