Sussex Academy contributes to Georgetown Boys & Girls Club

December 24, 2015

Sussex Academy kicked off its inaugural homecoming event with the Soarin’ Seahawk 5K Race in October. The race, with over 160 runners, was sponsored by All Span, Beacon Pediatrics, Cape Gazette, County Bank, DJ Padraig, Johnson Orthodontics, Kids Cottage, L & W Insurance, Poynton-Marsh Speech Services, Preston Motors, Scott and Shuman Law Offices and Carroll Moshier.

“In addition to school spirit activities, soccer and volleyball games, and a dance, our students wanted to add a service component to the homecoming festivities. It was decided that a portion of the funds raised from the Soarin’ Seahawk 5K Race would be donated to our local Boys & Girls Club,” said Marc Cooke, Student Government Association advisor. Sussex Academy presented the Georgetown Boys & Girls Club with a check for $500.

Sussex Academy is a public, charter, tuition-free school in Georgetown. The school is accepting applications for grade six and high school. For more information, call 302-856-3636 or email gina.derrickson@saas.k12.de.us.
