Two First State Dance Academy instructors dance with Delaware stars at fundraiser

February 6, 2016

Two Sussex County dance instructors from First State Dance Academy performed for the Seventh Annual Dancing with the Delaware Stars at Dover Downs Jan. 30.

Michele Xiques and Maria Fry volunteered as dance professionals for the event which raised money for the Greater Dover Boys & Girls Club and Mom's House.

Dancing with the Delaware Stars has become one of Delaware’s premier events, with local celebrities partnered with dance professionals to perform a judged dance routine similar to the hit television show. All dance couples vie for the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy.

Gov. Jack Markell was a guest judge for the event this year. Couples are judged based on dollars raised, judges' scores and votes from the public. "This is Mom’s House of Dover's primary fundraiser and enables the facility to continue its mission of providing quality daycare for single parents enrolled in school full time,” says Terri Brown, event chair and board member.
