Bruce and Kelly Benton celebrate their 50th Anniversary
With a chilling blizzard and the snow piling up outside on Saturday, Jan. 22, 1966, Carol "Kelly" Methven and Bruce Benton were at Woodland Presbyterian Church at 42nd and Pine Street in Philadelphia, Pa., celebrating with family and friends ... a beautiful candlelight wedding ceremony at 7 p.m.
Fifty years later, the Bentons, having raised two beautiful daughters, Shannon Benton of Alexandria, Va., and Erin Maggio of College Park, Md., are enjoying their “retirement," having lived in Rehoboth Beach and Lewes for the past 36 years. Kelly has said to use the word retirement rather loosely, because Bruce is still working as a per diem pharmacist at several local pharmacies in the area.
They started celebrating their 50th Anniversary early by spending 10 days in Key West during Christmas week, and they plan to continue to celebrate with family and friends throughout 2016.
During a toast with friends, Bruce shared his thoughts at a dinner celebration in Key West: "Our friendship, our love and affection are shared in our hearts, and our over 50 years of memories are not complete. Kelly, you're in the dreams that I dream. A lifetime of love and memories still waits ... as we continue down our life's path."
