The 12-2 Cape baseball squad didn’t let a cold and windy day hinder its hot performance at the plate, as the Vikings blew out Polytech 18-1 May 3 at Chris Short Field.
Josh Reinhold knocked in five RBIs, slamming a triple and a double. Senior Luke Crouch went yard with a grand slam in the fourth inning. Isaac Terhune and Mikey Jarrell each knocked in two RBIs, while Owen Daminger, Timmy Hitchcock, Brenn Scott and Justin Marsh each scored an RBI. Paris Mitchell slugged a double.
Junior Nick Cox went four innings on the mound, striking out six and allowing just one earned run. Reliever Daminger struck out one.
Braden Moran had a double and the lone RBI for the Panthers. Connor Bartlett took the loss on the mound.
“We played a solid game today against Polytech,” said Cape manager Ben Evick. “We took advantage of some mistakes that were made, and we had some timely hitting to push across runs in bunches. Nick [Cox] was in command on the mound from the start. Josh [Reinhold] had a huge day at the plate with a double, triple and five RBIs. Our guys have done a nice job buying into our team’s approach, and it’s paying off.”
Cape travels to Stephen Decatur Friday, May 6.
