"We practice fast and play faster,” said head coach Lindsey Underwood following the Vikings’ 19-6 blitzkrieg of Sussex Academy April 12 at Champions Stadium.

The game was billed as a battle between the top two girls’ teams in Delaware.

Cape led 4-0 at the 7:18 mark of the first quarter on four assisted goals in a 1:32 span.

Goals were scored by Lindsay D’Ambrogi from Claire Lopez, Carrie Clausius from Lopez, Clausius from Mairead Rishko and Lulu Rishko from Clausius.

Shelby Manlove scored from free position for the Seahawks, but that was followed by Cape goals from Grace Wiggins and Lopez.

The Seahawks came into the game unbeaten at 6-0 with a recent 12-9 win at defending state champion Tatnall. Sussex Academy had outscored six opponents 96-25.

Cape continued to push the pace in the second period and took a 13-4 lead into halftime.

“We got great games from Grace Wiggins, who just does everything for us, and Anna Sullivan on the draw controls,” Underwood said. “All our players pushed the pace, trusted in each other and made decisive decisions.”

“Sussex Academy is a good team,” she said. “It’s a rivalry game – they have been the focus for a week. We are 7-0 coming through a challenging start to the season.”

Clausius and D’Ambrogi have missed significant time over the last two seasons due to injury – Clausius to ACL surgery and D’Ambrigo to concussion protocols.

On Friday, the duo combined for 10 points, as each player tallied four goals and an assist. Lopez had an individual 10-point game with three goals and a career-high seven assists.

Lulu Rishko was a ground ball menace on the draw circle while picking up two goals and an assist.

Single-goal scorers from Cape were Macy Steinwedel, Wiggins, Mairead Rishko, Ally Diehl, Haley Gamuciello and Lina Frederick.

Sussex Academy goals were scored by Manlove with three, Callie Short with two and Emily Bisaha with one. Shea Danahy had an assist for the Seahawks.

Cape will host Indian River Wednesday, April 17, followed by Milford Friday, April 19.
