Cape soccer shuts out Tech 9-0

Vikings find offense after three straight one-goal games
October 26, 2023

The Cape soccer squad was running on all cylinders Oct. 24, when they could do no wrong in a 9-0 shutout of Sussex Tech.

“We have been struggling to finish games within regulation,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “We have been struggling to score goals at a high clip. At our last training session, we focused on finishing, with high repetition with quality chances in front of the goal. This game at Sussex Tech, our training session translated to game play. Our guys were locked in. Every player on the roster did a great job of creating and finishing chances.”

The Vikings outshot the Ravens 16-2 and held a 6-2 edge in corners.

Junior Evan Burris scored twice for the Vikings. Jack Schell, Donovan Sandoval, John Flynn, Cardin Benjamin, Brady Spiegel, Collin Sivels and Donnacha Hefferan each hit the twine once.

Benjamin, Burris, Flynn, Schell, Spiegel, Jerzy Haines, Angel Haro and Seth Benjamin each were credited with an assist.
