Grotto Pizza October specials to boost fight against breast cancer
Since October is National Pizza Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Grotto Pizza will once again donate $2 each from the sale of four October specialty pizzas and limited-time boli offerings to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.
“Last year, we raised $12,474 for the coalition,” said Jeff Gosnear, vice president of Grotto Pizza, which operates 23 locations in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. “Our team members played a large part in promoting the fundraiser. So, this year, we invited them to come up with ideas for four specialty pizzas, and a special October boli.”
The operations department judged the entrants on creativity, taste and ease of preparation. Winners received $500 and kudos on the specials menu.
“The submissions blew us away,” Gosnear said. “The flavor combinations are original, fun and so tasty. Our guests will love them.”
The Beef & Blue Pizza features tender steak, caramelized onions and a combination of Grotto’s pizza cheese and blue cheese, topped with fresh chopped arugula. The Mama Grotto Florentine Pizza is a thick-crust pizza with tomato sauce, marinated spinach, sausage, ricotta cheese and pizza cheese plus a hint of crushed red pepper.
The McGrotto Pizza features fresh ground beef, onions, pickles and plenty of cheese topped with crisp iceberg lettuce and Thousand Island dressing.
The Wild Mushroom Pizza is a white pizza with baby portabellas, cremini and white mushrooms marinated in cream, thyme and spices. It’s topped with sauteed onions and Grotto’s unique cheese blend.
The Cordon Bleu Boli consists of marinated pulled chicken breast, Canadian bacon and cheddar cheese, served with honey mustard.
