Jeanne Marilyn McCullagh, retired teacher
Jeanne Marilyn McCullagh passed away in the company of her family Monday, Oct. 26, 2020. She was born June 4, 1938, in Acushnet, Mass., daughter of Raynor and Doris Taylor.
Jeanne was raised in New Bedford, Mass., with her siblings, Raynor, Lynne and Jeff. She attended the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, where she studied to become a teacher, was a cheerleader, and met the love of her life, Bob McCullagh. Jeanne and Bob were married for 58 years when Bob was called home to his Lord. Their love story was a true example of how love, respect, kindness, laughter, and commitment stand the test of time, and her family finds peace knowing that they are reunited again in heaven.
She began her career as an elementary school teacher, evolved to defining the role of a super mom, and went on to become the director of Girl Scout Volunteers for Cape Cod, Mass., and later obtained her real estate license. Mostly, she enjoyed attending craft fairs, Boston Pops concerts, sitting on the beaches of her beloved Cape Cod and then her later Delaware home.
Jeanne and Bob raised four daughters in Trumbull, Conn., where she was active in her church, schools and community. She was a vestry member, warden, Sunday School teacher, holiday fair chairperson, and thrift store volunteer. She was a Girl Scout leader, and she implemented a girls’ summer softball league in Trumbull. As a supportive mother, she attended many football games, track meets, field hockey games, gymnastic meets, marching band competitions, choir concerts and summer camping trips. As grandchildren came along, she taught them the fine art of cookie baking, gingerbread house decorating, sneaking treats and overindulging on ice cream! She was devoted to her family and friends. Jeanne was a doer, a leader, and an inspiration to act boldly and to serve others. There was no better feeling than to be loved and cared for by Jeanne. The door to her home was wide open to others, and she provided warmth and hospitality to all who knew her. God called His angel home after a life well-lived and a job well-done.
Jeanne is survived by her four daughters, Caryn Case of New Hampshire (Will), Susan John of Florida (Randy), Linda Carpenter of Delaware (Aaron), and Sandra Butler of Connecticut (Rob); her two nieces, Melissa Taylor of New York (Paul) and Amy Ridlon of Vermont (Josh); her sister, Lynne Krebs; and multiple grandchildren, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Will and SarahMay Case, Megan Carpenter, Danny Butler, and Liam, Even and Gracyn Ridlon.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
