Lewes’ Osprey takes class title in Cape-to-Cape

Thundercrack takes second in tough Class A competition in annual regatta

Seven boats from Lewes Yacht Club and 12 boats from Corinthian Yacht Club in Cape May, N.J., took part in the annual 14-mile Cape-to-Cape Regatta Aug. 3. Starting in front of the yacht club and ending in New Jersey, the race featured a strong easterly wind that allowed all sailors to finish in two to three hours.

From LYC, Osprey, skippered by T.J. Thomas, won top honors in Class B, finishing with a corrected time of 2 hours, 18 minutes. Finishing second was LYC boat Delilah, skippered by Heath Gehrke, finishing in 2 hours, 22 minutes. Going Green, captained by Dave Cerney, finished in fourth place.

In Class A, Rick Hanson and crew in Thundercrack from Lewes finished in second place. Also in Class A, LYC finishers included Balance, skippered by Richard Beebe, in fifth place; Legacy, captained by Nick Carter, in eighth place; and Libertas, skippered by Thomas Goetz, in ninth place.

Three of the four top finishers in Class A were all from Corinthian: 1. Hey Jude, Jack Lord; 3. Mini Max, Patricia Schulze and Matthew York; 4. Max Power, Patricia Santelle.
