Lunch with a Purpose supports Laurel Public Library

December 5, 2024

Lunch With a Purpose/Coastal Delaware members and friends gathered Nov. 6 at Signatures at Bayside in Selbyville.  Attendees donated 844 pounds of nonperishable items for the Food Bank of Delaware holiday drive.

Laurel Public Library supporters and friends were this month’s hosts.

Gail Bruce, Laurel library director, spoke about how important the Laurel library is to the community, serving the poorest town in Delaware. Laurel is just a few miles from the coast, yet it has a 40% poverty rate. She said, “Laurel library’s motto is Connect, Create, Inspire.”

Attendees donated more than $5,550 in cash and approximately $4,458 in in-kind donations for the library’s outreach programs. Community resource efforts include a teleservice navigator to assist patrons with accessing health and social services; community food stand; hygiene stations and period packs; a community block party; books for babies; coat and shoe dstribution;
GED and ESL services; and passport and notary services.

Bruce thanked supporters and all attendees for their generosity.
