New Lewes police officers sworn in

The Lewes Police Department’s three newest officers were sworn in March 17, during a ceremony at city hall.
Mayor Andrew Williams administered the oath to officers Lucas Hudson of Millsboro, Isiah Brown of Bridgeville and Sean Holton of East Brunswick, N.J.
Holton, who was a New York City police officer, said he was looking for a change and is happy to be in Lewes.
“There is a lot of forced overtime there, [and] I wasn’t seeing my family. I have two little kids now. I just wasn’t enjoying it anymore,” he said.
All three men graduated with honors from the Delaware State Police Academy March 14. Brown received the physical fitness award, Holton received the Francis T. Schneible Resiliency Award and Hudson received the Cpl. Thomas Hannon Top Recruit Award.
They will now go through a minimum 12 weeks of field training.
Chief Tom Spell told the family members who were there for the ceremony that the officers are in good hands.
“We’re going to keep them safe. We’re going to show them how to interact with our community. It is a very supportive community, and we’re lucky in that respect. We have their back and we count on them to have ours,” Spell said.
The department now has 17 officers. The Fiscal Year 2026 budget, just passed by mayor and city council, has funding for an 18th officer.
“Safety of our residents is of utmost importance, so there’s a lot of respect we have in the job you do,” Williams said. “You’re coming into a really good culture. I’m proud of the team the chief has built.”
