Sussex County Council meets Jan. 28
Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the County Administration Building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. The group will discuss council’s priorities, among other agenda items. At 1:30 p.m., council will consider three conditional-use applications. Among them is from Twin Branch Winery near Milton, which is seeking to expand its offerings to include a tasting room and events venue. A full agenda can be found at sussexcountyde.gov.
OC Blood Drive continues Jan. 28-29
Make Waves, Save Lives is the tagline for the Blood Bank of Delmarva’s 26th annual Ocean City Blood Drive, which continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 28 and 29, at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Md.
It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion.
Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia and many more.
“It’s the biggest blood drive around,” said Bryan Shepherd, Blood Bank of Delmarva account manager. “Nothing else touches the scope of what it does.”

Overfall Preserve sets special meeting
The Lewes Planning Commission will hold a special meeting at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Rollins Center.
The panel will further discuss and possibly make a recommendation on the proposed Overfall Preserve development, a 90-townhome community located on Savannah Road.

Dewey infrastructure meeting set Jan. 30
The Dewey Beach Infrastructure Committee will meet at 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Dewey Beach Lifesaving Station. The group will receive a presentation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regarding the Read Avenue flood mitigation project. The committee will also discuss recommendations about flood mitigation projects on Van Dyke Avenue bayside and Jersey Street. The meeting will be held in person and via Zoom and YouTube.
Lunch, Laugh and Learn set at Milford Wellness Village
Milford Wellness Village will host Lunch, Laugh and Learn, a free event open to the community from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, in the conference center at 21 West Clarke Ave., Milford. Led by Lon Kiefer, RN, MBA, NHA, who is also a comedian for older adult audiences, guests will learn how humor and having a medical home can improve attendees’ health and wellness. Milford Wellness Village leaders and PACE Your Life representatives will give guided tours, and guests can meet with service providers and enjoy a free lunch. Seating is limited. Dewey Beach to meet Jan. 31
Dewey Beach Town Council will meet at 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, at the Dewey Beach Lifesaving Station. Among the topics on the agenda are discussion and possible vote to approve a bid for the construction of a new town hall and police station, possible vote on the Dewey Beach Volunteer of the Year, and discussion and possible vote on amending code to establish a cap for the town infrastructure account equal to three years of projected spending. 330 Rehoboth Ave. rezoning back Jan. 31
Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a continuation of the public hearing related to rezoning a portion of 330 Rehoboth Ave. from residential to commercial. The agenda also calls for a public hearing on rezoning a portion of 8 Wilmington Ave. from residential to commercial. Upstate special election for open state Senate seats
The special election for state Senate seats recently vacated will be held Saturday, Feb. 14, in districts 1 and 5.
Senate District 5 that was held by Kyle Evans Gay before she won the seat for lieutenant governor has two candidates, Democrat and former legislator Ray Seigfried, and Republican Brent Burge.
For the District 1 seat vacated by Sarah McBride who now serves in Congress, there are three candidates – Democrat Dan Cruce, Republican Steven Washington, and nonpartisan Riley “Liv” Figliola.
